Honorary professorship for Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle

An honorary professorship for Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle

The Hesse Regional Government has given the publisher Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle of Bärenreiter-Verlag the title of Professor. People who have made a particular contribution in the field of science or the arts can be awarded this honorary title, according to Higher Education Law. The award was made at the suggestion of the Hesse Minister for Science and the Arts, Udo Corts, supported by a cabinet resolution. Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle, together with her husband Leonhard Scheuch, runs Bärenreiter-Verlag in Kassel, one of the major publishers of classical music in the world. The company was founded by her father Karl Vötterle in Augsburg in 1923 and has become famous throughout the international music world particularly for its publication of the complete editions of Schütz, Bach, Händel, Mozart, Schubert and other composers. As well as specialising in the classics, from its earliest days the publishing house has had a strong commitment to contemporary music and has also engaged in cultural-political issues. Continuing in this tradition, Bärenreiter-Verlag joined the "Bündnis für Musikunterricht in Hessen" at Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle’s instigation, an organisation in which two German school music associations have amalgamated in order to raise the profile of musical education.
