Marco Enrico Bossi: An Italian organ master

Marco Enrico Bossi (1861-1925) was a leading figure in Italian organ music during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Stylistically he is often compared to his famous contemporary César Franck, with whom he was on terms of friendship.

Bossi’s compositional style combines Bachian craftsmanship with late-romantic influences from France and Germany, including unmistakable echoes of Johannes Brahms.

This volume launches Bärenreiter's performing Urtext edition of Bossi’s complete works for organ, scheduled to appear in six volumes. It is based on all sources that have survived and will include all of his works, many of which were previously unknown. Each volume will contain a detailed preface and critical report (Italian, Eng., Ger.) as well as facsimiles and a list of sources.
