A sensational new discovery

There has been a spectacular rediscovery of the score of a five-part mass with instrumental accompaniment by the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710–1736) in the »Fundo do Conde de Redondo«, the archives of Count Redondo, now in the National Library in Lisbon. This new addition to the manuscript sources of the work has enabled the editor Sérgio Dias to assemble previously known fragments of the mass in Italian archives and libraries, and to produce a critical edition. The wealth of musical ideas, combined with approachable choral writing, make the work ideal for church choirs.
