Complete Works

Founded by Rudolf Gerber.
Continued by Gerhard Croll
Edited by the Academy of Science and Literature, Mainz

This edition presents, for the first time, the complete works of the great operatic reformer in a scholarly-critical edition based on modern editorial principles and drawing on all available sources. In this way it not only meets the demands of scholarship, but also offers scores for authentic performance.
Within each division the works are arranged in the order in which they were composed. Fragments, variants, initial versions and similar items appear in an appendix to the relevant volume. Each volume also contains a preface, facsimiles and a critical report.
The edition comprises approx. 60 volumes in the following divisions:

I. Musical Dramas (11 volumes)
II. Dance Dramas (2 volumes)
III. Italian Opera Seria and Operatic Serenades (28 volumes)
IV. French Comic Operas (11 volumes)
V. Instrumental Music (ca. 2 volumes)
VI. Vocal Music (ca. 1 volume)
VII. Supplement (ca. 3 volumes)
